Arose at 7.
Good wash and splendid lunch – roast beef, spuds, rice and fruit.
Afternoon went with James up to the
Apex. Tremendous climb. NZ officer conducts us up. This is the most important position in the
Peninsula. Turks 40 yards away and dead bodies in front. Watched trench catapult fling bombs 100
yards. Exhausting climb back up steep
sheer cliff. Sat at top for
breather. Discovered place with
“dangerous” on it, but too tired to move (Bedford post attacked). For dinner, a scraggy Byzantine chicken. Got from Lemnos. Knocked all the mess up today.
