Shelled morning. Censored letters and slept in dugout
7-11. Todd buried at 6.30. Quite dark.
Then Mess. Then Balme, James and
Lisle went to hospital. Fearful storm at
7.50. Retired to dugout. Water poured in 3 ins deep. Tremendous storm. 7.30 slept.
8.15 heavy firing and alarm. Ran
or slid to Number 6 post. Really feeling
nervous as I thought by volume of fire Turks had captured our trenches. Bedford post came in and we ordered to take
patrol out instead. Trenches
quagmire. Shifted blankets to rest camp,
dry but worse, so came back and slept in wet 3-5, took 2 men out patrol,
crawled through mire and aimed at Bulgar’s Crest but followed by and met
patrol. Having squitters. Joined by 2 men at B.P. Slept till 7 and till on duty again.
